a two-way street

I believe that students and instructors both have an equal amount of responsibility in making a class meaningful and successful. It’s a two-way street.

Speaking as a student, it’s easy to wander off and lose focus during class and it happens to us all! However, you’ve got to match the effort of the instructor. Anything less, you are wasting your time, and cheating yourself.

Are there any advantages to passive learning?

An instructor’s goal is to maximize your potential as a dancer. Not to give you a hard time but to provide you insights. So usually, when an instructor explains or points out something, there’s a reason behind it.

During the demonstration portions, notice when you press ‘play’ on your internal chatter button. This is usually where you begin to lose focus and miss something that was probably easy enough for you to grasp the first time.

Let’s redirect the internal chatter of the mind!

How?

At Paso, we always emphasize on going back to our breathing. Inhaling and exhaling slowly from our belly seems to help many of us relax and refocus.

Next time you’re in a class — what ever class that may be — allow yourself to fully engage in the activities!

Remember… Your instructor is only half the class.

Your experience will most likely to change dramatically, and you will leave the class feeling more fulfilled and inspired to continue improving!
